Alright, folks, gather ’round! Today, I’m gonna walk you through my little adventure of remaking the PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, the original order version. It’s been a ride, let me tell ya!

So, first things first, I got my hands on some of that Saffiano leather. Now, this ain’t your regular leather. It’s got this cool cross-hatch print pressed into it, making it tough and water-resistant. I did some digging, and it seems like they mostly use vegetable-tanned full-grain leather for this. Not gonna lie, figuring out the right thickness was a bit of a head-scratcher, but I got there eventually. The color of the leather I got was black, which is not the first choice, but I hope it won’t affect the final result too much.

  • Got the Saffiano leather – check!
  • Figured out the thickness – double-check!

Next up, I started cutting the leather. I used a template I found to make sure everything was the right size and shape. Let me tell you, cutting leather is no joke! You gotta have a steady hand and a sharp knife, or things can go south real quick. After a few close calls, I managed to get all the pieces cut out. Phew!

Then came the fun part – sewing! Now, I’m no pro, but I’ve dabbled in sewing before. But this Saffiano leather is a whole different beast. It’s thick and sturdy, so I needed a heavy-duty needle and thread. There were moments I thought my sewing machine was gonna give up on me, but we made it through. Stitching those pieces together, bit by bit, seeing the bag take shape – that was something else! I added top handles and a detachable shoulder strap, making this bag quite versatile.

Adding the Bling

No Prada bag is complete without some shiny hardware. I added gold-toned hardware, ’cause who doesn’t love a bit of bling? A removable leather keyring, side snap closures – the whole nine yards. And of course, the iconic triangle leather and metal logo plaque. I also added some external zip pockets for extra storage. Had to make a few adjustments here and there, but in the end, it all came together beautifully.

And there you have it! My very own handmade PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. It might not be perfect, but I’m darn proud of it. This project taught me a lot about working with leather, about patience, and about the satisfaction of creating something with your own two hands. Would I do it again? Maybe. But for now, I’m gonna enjoy carrying this beauty around!
