Okay, so, I saw this PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag at the specialty stores, and I just had to try and remake it myself. I mean, the design is just so sleek, it screams chic, you know?
First things first, I went on a little hunt for some good quality Re-Nylon fabric. I found something pretty similar, maybe not 100%, but good enough for me. The original one seems to be inspired by their archives, they say “icons” and stuff.
Then, I started figuring out the measurements. I wanted it to be, like, almost the same size as the real deal. I sketched out the design, front and back, and made sure the chain details would fit right. This took a bit of trial and error, to be honest. I cut out the fabric, pinned them together, and then I got to sewing.
- Cutting the fabric: This was the easy part, just followed my sketch and made sure everything was even.
- Sewing the panels: I used my trusty old sewing machine. I stitched the front, back, and side panels together. Man, that machine has seen better days, but it still works!
- Making the chain detail: I found some chains at a local craft store, not as fancy as the PRADA ones, but they do the job. I attached them based on the pictures I took at the store, trying to copy the pattern.
- Adding the lining: I used a simple black fabric for the lining. Nothing too fancy, just wanted it to be neat and functional. Sewed that in, and it was starting to look like a real bag!
- Final touches: I added a zipper at the top, ’cause who wants their stuff falling out? Then, I made the handles. They say “functional designsmade from leather and Re-Nylon”, I used the same Re-Nylon fabric, doubled it up, and stitched it securely.
It was a lot of work, I gotta say. Many hours hunched over that sewing machine. But, when I finally finished it, I was pretty stoked. It wasn’t exactly like the PRADA bag from the store, but it was my version, and I was proud of it. I even showed it off to my friends, and they were impressed.
So, yeah, that’s how I spent my weekend, making my own version of a fancy PRADA bag. I know it’s not a real one, but I saved some good money. A fun little project, and now I have a new tote bag that I totally made myself. Pretty cool, right?

I think it looks pretty good! I had to put a lot of love and time into it. I think I did a good job for someone who doesn’t have much experience.
