Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while now, the large one. I finally decided to go for it and see if I could remake one myself. You know, just a little DIY project to see how close I could get to the real deal from the official flagship store.
First, I spent hours, and I mean hours, online just looking at pictures of the bag. I needed to get every detail down, from the specific shade of the leather to the way the handles are attached. And let me tell you, this bag, launched way back in 2007, is a classic for a reason. It’s simple, it’s elegant, and it’s got this timeless vibe that I absolutely love. I even dove into TikTok – apparently, the Prada Re-Edition hashtag has over 32 million views! It seems like everyone, including big names like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, is rocking this style.
Now, about the materials. I found some really good quality Saffiano leather. This is important because it’s what gives the bag that signature textured look. Then, I needed to get the hardware right. I managed to find some gold-tone pieces that are pretty close to the original. The real challenge was getting the measurements exactly right. I used a bunch of different rulers and even made a few paper templates before I started cutting the leather.
The Assembly Process
- First, I carefully cut out all the leather pieces.
- Then, I started assembling the body of the bag, which was surprisingly tricky.
- Attaching the handles was another challenge. They need to be perfectly aligned and super sturdy, because, let’s face it, we women tend to carry our whole lives in our bags.
- The interior also needed to be on point. I added a few pockets, just like the original, because you can never have enough pockets, right? And I am thinking that the original one costs 4000 euros!
After days of work, I finally finished my Prada Galleria bag. It’s not an exact replica, of course, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s got that same elegant, sophisticated feel as the original. And while I was doing all of this work, I found out that Prada is a little cheaper than Louis Vuitton. Plus, I discovered that all genuine Prada bags come with an authenticity card in a black envelope. I think I’ll make one just for fun!
It was a fun project, and it made me appreciate the craftsmanship of the real thing even more. Maybe one day I’ll splurge on the real deal from the official store, but for now, I’m happy with my handmade version.
