Okay, so I’ve been wanting a Rolex GMT-Master II Root Beer Bezel for a while now. I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s a classic. But the price tag? Ouch. So, I started looking into getting a high-imitation one. Yeah, I know, some people might look down on that, but hey, a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do, right?
First, I did some digging online. I found out that there are tons of places selling these things. I mean, it’s a whole industry. I looked at some reviews of different brands like Stuhrling and Mathey-Tissot, you know, just to get an idea of what’s out there.
I read that Stuhrling is a pretty decent mid-range brand. They have this Meridian 3968 GMT Quartz watch. It’s a diver, 42mm, with a screw-down crown, and it’s water-resistant up to 330 feet. Sounds pretty good, right? It’s got a black dial and these luminous circle markers. I thought, “Hmm, not bad.”
Then I came across Mathey-Tissot. Apparently, they’ve been around since 1886, which is pretty impressive. Their Mathy Vintage GMT Two-Tone Root Beer Dial watch really caught my eye. It looks super similar to the Rolex, with that two-tone bezel. And it’s made in Switzerland, which adds to the appeal, I guess.
But then I stumbled upon Squale. They’re known for their diving watches, and their Atmos Heritage Ceramic 1545 is a real beauty. It has a matte black dial and a brown ceramic bezel with these gold-filled index markers. I was like, “Whoa, that’s pretty close to the real deal.”
After that, I found this Alpina Seastrong Diver 300. It’s not a GMT watch, but the colors are similar to the Root Beer. It’s a bit bigger, 44mm, with a black stainless steel dial and a unidirectional brown bezel. It looked pretty slick, but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.
Finally, I checked out Meccaniche Veneziane. They’re an Italian brand, and their Nereide GMT is a tribute to this Venetian submarine from 1913. It’s got a 42mm stainless steel case and a unidirectional bezel. It looked cool, but I wasn’t totally sold.
After all that searching, I decided to go for a high-imitation Rolex GMT-Master II Root Beer Bezel. The price is something that you might be wondering about, well, it varies. After searching, the prices are not that bad.
I found a seller that seemed legit. They had good reviews, and the pictures looked promising. The watch arrived a few weeks later, and man, I was excited. I opened the box, and there it was. It looked amazing. The bezel, the crystal, everything was perfect. The card said it was from 2023, which was a nice touch.
I’ve been wearing it for a few months now, and I gotta say, I’m really happy with it. It keeps time well, it looks great, and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Sure, it’s not a real Rolex, but it’s close enough for me. And honestly, most people can’t even tell the difference.
So, yeah, that’s my story. I took a chance on a high-imitation Rolex GMT-Master II Root Beer Bezel, and I don’t regret it one bit. It’s a great watch, and it makes me feel like a million bucks, even though I didn’t spend anywhere near that much.
