Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake a designer bag for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. The bag in question? The PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag. Yeah, it’s a mouthful, but trust me, it’s a gorgeous bag.
First, I started by obsessing over pictures of the bag online. I mean, I looked at the details on the official PRADA website, and some online shops like Mytheresa. I saw someone saying it is a “reinterpreted icon”. Whatever it means.
Then, I needed to find the materials. This was probably the hardest part. I wanted to get as close to the original as possible, so I spent hours, and I mean HOURS, searching for the right kind of Re-Nylon fabric and some good quality chain. The fabric was a bit of a nightmare to find, but I eventually stumbled upon a fabric store online that had something pretty darn close. It looks like some “shoulder bags” or “tote bags”, but who cares.
Next up, the pattern. Now, I’m no professional seamstress, but I’m pretty handy with a sewing machine. I decided to create my own pattern based on the measurements and photos I had gathered. It took a few tries, and a lot of paper, but I finally got something I was happy with. They also have some “mini bags”, but I don’t like that.

Cut the fabric: This was nerve-wracking. No turning back after this!

Sew the pieces together: Slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. I focused on getting the seams as neat as possible, just like the real deal.

Add the chain: This was the fun part! The chain really elevates the bag and gives it that signature PRADA look. Some shops call it “chain bags” or something, sounds weird to me.

Finishing touches: I added a lining and a zipper, and voila! My very own PRADA Re-Edition 1995-ish bag was complete!
Honestly, I’m so proud of how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty close to the original, and I learned a ton in the process. Plus, I saved a bunch of money by making it myself!
The Result
It looks amazing! I’ve been carrying it around for a few days now, and I’ve gotten so many compliments. People can’t believe I made it myself. It just goes to show that with a little bit of determination, and a lot of patience, you can create something truly special. I think I will try those “handbags” or something like that next time.
Would I do it again? Absolutely! It was such a rewarding experience, and I’m already thinking about which designer bag I want to tackle next. Maybe something from those “new collections”?
