Hey everyone, today I want to share my little project of remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010. This watch is a real beauty, and it’s got a hefty price tag, around 210 something online, I saw, I don’t remember, but it’s the same watch. I found some info online, like on Chrono24, where they list prices for this model. Since I’ve got some interest, I took it upon myself to try and recreate it.
So, first thing I did was gather all the materials I could find, I tried to get as close to the original as possible. I mean, this is a high-end watch, rose gold, pearls, and all that fancy stuff. The rose gold case is about 31 x 34.8mm, which is not too big, not too small, just the perfect size for something classy, I think.
I started with the case. Getting that rose gold look was important. I worked with a local jeweler to get the right shape and feel. We spent a lot of time on this part because, you know, it’s the foundation of the whole thing. The original has a beautiful rectangular shape, which is part of the Gondolo collection’s charm, so I tried hard to get that right.
Next up was the strap. The original has this gorgeous pearl and rose gold strap. I decided to go with high-quality imitation pearls because, let’s be real, getting the exact same Akoya pearls as the original would be way too much. I found some really good fakes that look almost identical. I arranged them in the same pattern as the original, trying to mimic that elegant look.
- Case Crafting: Worked with a local jeweler to get the right shape and rose gold look.
- Strap Making: Used high-quality imitation pearls and arranged them to match the original pattern.
- Movement: This was tricky. I used a decent manual movement I found online. Not as good as the original, but it gets the job done.
- Details: Paid a lot of attention to the little details, like the engravings and the overall finish.
The movement was tricky. The real Patek Philippe watches have these amazing, intricate movements. I opted for a decent manual movement I found online. It’s not the same, obviously, but it works, and it keeps the watch ticking. It was a compromise, but a necessary one.
Then came the details, like the engravings and the overall finish. I spent hours, maybe even days, just staring at pictures of the original, trying to get every little detail right. I used a magnifying glass and some precision tools to add those tiny, intricate designs that make the watch look so luxurious.
The Hardest Part
Honestly, the hardest part was getting the overall feel right. You can copy the look, but getting that same weight, that same feel of luxury is tough. I did my best, though. I handled the watch a lot, tried to imagine what the original feels like, and made adjustments along the way.
In the end, I think I created something pretty close to the original. It’s not perfect, but it’s got that classic Gondolo look, the rose gold, the pearls, and that elegant rectangular case. It’s something I’m proud of, and it was a fun project to work on.
So, yeah, that’s my remake of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I learned a lot along the way, and now I have a beautiful watch to show for it. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
