Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake that super classy Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738, the one you see on their official store. You know, the one with the rose gold and that slick black dial? That’s the one.
First, I dusted off my old watchmaking tools. It’s been a while, so I had to give them a good cleaning. After that, I started hunting for materials. I needed some good quality rose gold, not that cheap stuff. And the dial, oh boy, finding the right shade of black was a pain.
Once I got all my materials, I started shaping the case. I’ve done this a few times before, but it’s still tricky. You gotta be super precise, or the whole thing looks wonky. I spent a good chunk of time just filing and polishing, filing and polishing, until it was just right.
- Sourcing the rose gold: This was tough, but I finally found a supplier who had the right quality.
- Making the dial: I mixed a few different black pigments to get that perfect, deep black that Patek uses.
- Shaping the case: Lots of careful filing and polishing. This took the longest, honestly.
Then came the movement. I decided to use an existing one because making one from scratch is way beyond my skill level right now. But I did take it apart, clean every single piece, and put it back together. That alone took me a couple of days. You know when someone hears about the best thing, he wants it.
Putting everything together was the most nerve-wracking part. One slip, and you can scratch the case or mess up the dial. But I took it slow and, thankfully, it all came together nicely.
The Final Result
Honestly, I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s not a perfect replica, but it captures the essence of the Golden Ellipse. It’s got that same elegant vibe, and it feels great on the wrist. It is the best of the best for me. Maybe one day I’ll be good enough to make the movement too, but for now, I’m happy with this. This task is really interesting. I also want to keep my memory about this task.
