So, I finally pulled the trigger and got my hands on a copy of the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the sapphire crystal and that Caliber 3861 movement. Let me tell you, it was a whole process, but totally worth it.
The Hunt
First off, I spent hours, and I mean hours, online. It’s a maze out there! I was looking at pictures, reading reviews, and comparing prices on all sorts of sites. I was mostly after the Professional Sapphire model and it was a wild goose chase to find it.
The Decision
After what felt like forever, I finally found a good selection. I noticed the size, it’s a 42mm case, but get this, the bezel is a bit under 40mm. It’s not huge, which is good for me.
Making it Mine
I found a good deal for a copy of an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, with the 3861 movement and sapphire crystal. The price was right, and it looked legit, so I went for it. The waiting was the hardest part! But when it finally arrived, man, it was exciting.
Unboxing
Unboxing this thing was an experience. I carefully opened the package. I took my time, savoring the moment. Then there it was and It was just cool, seeing it in person after all that searching and waiting.
First Impressions
Right away, I could tell this is a solid watch. This is built to take a beating and I guess it can handle whatever I throw at it. Plus, people say these things hold their value, some even go up in price. So, it’s not just a watch, it’s kind of an investment, which is pretty neat. People talk about this watch like it’s a big deal. They say it’s been to the moon, which is crazy to think about.
Digging Deeper
I did a little more digging into the movement. So, the 3861 is like an upgrade from the old 1861. They added this coaxial thing, which is supposed to give it more power and better accuracy. It’s also got this META certification, whatever that means, but it sounds fancy. Oh, and I found out they stopped making the Speedmaster Reduced in 2009, but they still make smaller Speedmasters.
Wrapping Up
All in all, getting this copy of the OMEGA Speedmaster has been a journey. From the endless online searching to finally having it in my hands, it’s been quite the ride. But you know what? I’m really happy with it. It’s a cool piece of history, and it’s just a darn good watch. This is something I’ll be wearing for a long time, and maybe, just maybe, it’ll be worth a bit more down the line. Who knows?
